Stilla is a gyroscopic camera by Maybe It’s The Lighting.

Of any given moment, you take two, three or more pictures. For every image, Stilla will then remember the direction you were looking at.

The result resembles a crystal, a 3D object made of facets blending into each other as you turn it in your hand. You can share these fully interactive 3D objects with everyone online, in the browser, full screen. It works best with the latest versions of Chrome, Safari or Firefox.

Stilla is a modern interpretation of the photo you keep in your wallet. A moment to hold in your hand.

Tips

• Keep the number of images low. Think 2, 3 or 4.
• The larger the angles between the shots, the smoother the transitions become.
• When turning a Stilla, bright parts stay longer than dark ones. The blending reacts differently to bright and dark parts of your pictures.
• Look, don't scan. Shoot things you see, lights, colors, details.
• Try taking 2 photos facing opposite directions.
• Take a portrait of a friend and add one photo, one look at something else that reminds you of the situation.
• Think more about light and less about 3D. The quality of a transition between facets depends a lot on the light and how it changes as you turn a Stilla.

Possible Questions

Q: How does privacy work?

Your photos are private. They will not be shown in a public feed or overview, not on this website nor inside the iOS App without your explicit consent. Be aware though that everybody who gets the short link to your Stilla, is able to see it.

Q: Who owns the uploaded Stillas?

You do. Stilla does not claim any ownership of your content. For legal details make sure to consult the Terms of Use further below.

Q: If I delete a Stilla in the App, will the uploaded version be removed as well?

Yes.

Q: Why is Stilla not free?

Q: I can’t install Stilla.

Stilla runs only on iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th generation), iPad 2 and any newer device. The reason for this is 3D hardware performance and the fact that Stilla needs a gyro-sensor to measure the attitude of your device. Such a sensor is not present on an iPhone 3GS for example.

Q: Where does the Stilla App store my pictures?

Within Stilla. They are backed up to your computer when you backup your iPhone. Such a backup is usually done automatically when you sync your iPhone within iTunes or wirelessly through iCloud. Be advised: If you delete the Stilla App, you will also delete all your photos.

Q: Can I export the photos of a Stilla?

Yes. Select “Export Original Photos” to have them exported in full resolution to the Photos App where all your other photos from the Camera App are.

Q: Are my photos saved in the original full resolution my camera provides?

Yes. Select “Export Original Photos” to access them in the Photos App.

Q: Can Stilla use existing photos from my camera roll?

No, Stilla needs to know in which direction you were holding the iPhone while taking the picture. Other camera apps do not store this information.

Q: Will there be a version for Android, Blackberry, etc.?

Stilla has just started and for now, we are focusing on the iOS App and the online service.

Terms of Use

By using the stil.la website, Stilla iOS App and the Stilla Services you are agreeing to be bound by the following terms and conditions ("Terms of Use").

Basic Terms

• You must be 13 years or older to use this site.
• You are responsible for any activity that occurs under your screen name.
• You are responsible for keeping your password secure.
• You may not use Stilla for any illegal or unauthorized purpose. International users agree to comply with all local laws regarding online conduct and acceptable content.
• You are solely responsible for your conduct and any data and photos that you submit, post and display on the Stilla Service.
• You must not modify, adapt or hack Stilla or modify another website so as to falsely imply that it is associated with Stilla.
• You must not access Stilla's private API by any other means other than the Stilla application itself.
• You must not crawl, scrape, or otherwise cache any content from Stilla including but not limited to user profiles and their photos.
• You must not use web URLs in your name without prior written consent from the Stilla Service owner.
• You must not transmit any worms or viruses or any code of a destructive nature.
• You must not, in the use of Stilla, violate any laws in your jurisdiction (including but not limited to copyright laws).
• You may not post nude, partially nude, or sexually suggestive photos.
• Violation of any of these agreements will result in the termination of your Stilla account. While Stilla prohibits such conduct and content on its site, you understand and agree that Stilla cannot be responsible for the Content posted on its web site and you nonetheless may be exposed to such materials and that you use the Stilla Service at your own risk.

General Conditions

• We reserve the right to modify or terminate the Stilla Service for any reason, without notice at any time.
• We reserve the right to alter these Terms of Use at any time. If the alterations constitute change to the Terms of Use, we will notify you via internet mail according to the preference expressed in your account. What constitutes a "material change" will be determined at our sole discretion, in good faith and using common sense and reasonable judgement.
• We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason at any time.
• We reserve the right to force forfeiture of any username that violates trademark, or may mislead other users.
• We may, but have no obligation to, remove Content and accounts containing Content that we determine in our sole discretion are unlawful, offensive, threatening, libelous, defamatory, obscene or otherwise objectionable or violates any party's intellectual property or these Terms of Use.
• We reserve the right to reclaim usernames on behalf of businesses or individuals that hold legal claim or trademark on those usernames.

Proprietary Rights in Content on Stilla

• Stilla does NOT claim ANY ownership rights in the text, images, photos, works of authorship or any other materials (collectively, "Content") that you post on the Stilla Services. Any Content published through the Stilla Services will not be distributed outside the Stilla Services. The iOS App Stilla Version 1.5 treats all uploaded Content as private. Such Content will not be collected in a publicly visible stream for example, unless the User explicitly allows the Stilla Services to do so.
• You represent and warrant that: (i) you own the Content posted by you on or through the Stilla Services or otherwise have the right to grant the license set forth in this section, (ii) the posting and use of your Content on or through the Stilla Services does not violate the privacy rights or any other rights, publicity rights, copyrights, contract rights, intellectual property or any other rights of any person, and (iii) the posting of your Content on the Site does not result in a breach of contract between you and a third party. You agree to pay for all royalties, fees, and any other monies owing any person by reason of Content you post on or through the Stilla Services.
• The Stilla Services contain Content of Users and other Stilla licensors. Except as provided within this Agreement, you may not copy, modify, translate, publish, broadcast, transmit, distribute, perform, display, or sell any Content appearing on or through the Stilla Services.
• Stilla performs technical functions necessary to offer the Stilla Services, including but not limited to transcoding and/or reformatting Content to allow its use throughout the Stilla Services.
• Although the Site and other Stilla Services are normally available, there will be occasions when the Site or other Stilla Services will be interrupted for scheduled maintenance or upgrades, for emergency repairs, or due to failure of telecommunications links and equipment that are beyond the control of Stilla. Also, although Stilla will normally only delete Content that violates this Agreement, Stilla reserves the right to delete any Content for any reason, without prior notice. Deleted content may be stored by Stilla in order to comply with certain legal obligations and is not retrievable without a valid court order. Website Visitors

Like most website operators, Stilla collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. Stilla's purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how Stilla's visitors use its website. From time to time, Stilla may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its website.

Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information

Certain visitors to Stillas's websites choose to interact with Stilla in ways that require Stilla to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that Stilla gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, we ask visitors who sign up for an account on http://stil.la or through the iOS App to provide a username and email address. In each case, Stilla collects such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor's interaction with Stilla. Stilla does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below. And visitors can always refuse to supply personally-identifying information, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging in certain website-related activities.

Stilla may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to its websites. Stilla may display this information publicly or provide it to others. However, Stilla does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below.
