Use of 3D printing is increasing day by day and it is ever growing. It is so easy to use, as compared to the previous processes used in manufacturing, that manufacturers are bringing this technology sooner or later but surely they will. It is now in use in many industries and in many well known companies also.

It is not so hard to use if one have understood it’s working better. No much need of labour is required to manufacture from 3D printer. It is almost fully operational from the application. This is the one cause which makes it more accurate and does not have any error in their products.

Paul Benning, chief technologist for HP 3D Printing & Digital Manufacturing, have said in an interview that in the future the 3 D printing will include multi-materials manufacturing. There are many more things they have added in their interview. We are going to know about some of the important things in this section. Let us start.

Automated assembly with mixed materials

Benning believes that in future we will begin to see automated assembly with industries seamlessly integrating multi-part assemblies which will include combinations of 3D printed metal with some plastic parts. “There’s not currently a super printer that can do all things intrinsically, like printing metal and plastic parts, due to factors such as processing temperatures,” Benning told Design News. “However, as automation increases, there’s a vision from the industry for a more automated assembly setup where there is access to part production from both flavors of HP technology: Multi Jet Fusion and Metal Jet.”

Medical industry, are the ones which have used 3D printing in a large scale and are using from a long time and is using till now. It is so helpful for them that almost every thing they produce are the result of 3D printing. After medical industry the one which have recently joined this trend are aerospace. They also jumped in this trend and have started the manufacturing of their items. The next major industry which can use 3D printing technology and it will thrive better in it is automobile industry. It will be a better costumer for additive manufacturing.

Surfaces will become an area of innovation

Benning sees a future where data which pays for 3D printed parts will be coded into the surface texture. “It’s a competitive advantage to be able to build interesting things onto surfaces. HP has experimented with coding digital information into a surface texture. By encoding information into the texture itself, manufacturers can have a bigger data payload than just the serial number.”

He stated that the surface coding could be read by, humans for machines. “One way to tag a part either overtly or covertly is to make sure that both people and machines are able to read it based on the shape or orientation of the bumps. We have put hundreds of copies of a serial number spread across the surface of a part so that it’s both hidden and universally apparent.”

Benning also sees this concept as a part of the future of the ever increasing digital manufacturing. “This is one of our inventions that serves to tie together our technologies with the future of parts tracking and data systems,” said Benning.

Universities will also give their suggestions

Benning believes that academics and training programs can offer new thought processes to liberate designers from old thinking and will allow them to tap into technologies for the future. Benning believes one solution for breaking old thinking is to train upcoming engineers in a new ways of thinking. “To combat this, educators of current and soon-to-be designers must adjust the thought process that goes into designing for production given the new technologies in the space,” said Benning. “We recognize this will take some time, particularly for universities that are standing up degree programs.” He also believes new software design tools will guide designers to make better use of 3D printing in manufacturing.

Software and data management will play a crucial role in the future of 3D printing

Benning also believes advancements in the software and data management will enhance improved system management and part quality. This will then guide to better customer outcomes. “Companies within the industry are creating API hooks to build a fluid ecosystem for customers and partners,” said Benning.

HP is now beginning to use data to enable some ideal designs and optimized workflows for Multi Jet Fusion factories. The goal of that individualized production will support custom products build with mass production manufacturing techniques, leading us to a batch-of-one or mass customization.

Overall, the future of 3D printing seems to be bright and ever-growing. There will be time when almost everything will be processed by 3D printing technology. Thus will save labour, reduce waste which ultimately save our environment.…
